Watertown Players 2nd Annual Robert Burns Night

There will be kilts a-flying when the Watertown Players and the staff of the Lyons Irish Pub combine to present the 2nd annual Celebration of the Life and Works of Robert Burns. The festivities will begin at 7pm. There is no charge to attend, but a generous donation won't be refused.

Robert Burns is a celebrated Scottish poet, composer of songs and activist. He was the author of such classic works of literature as
"A Man's a Man For 'A That", "My Luv Is Lak' A Red, Red Rose", and others. The evening will be spent in the recitation of some of Burns' classic poems as well as some of his songs. The show is under the direction of Alice Mirk. It was produced by Sue Trepte.

Those participating in the show include Alice Mirk, Sue Trepte, Jim Powell, Bill and Juanita Edington, Saedra Fremont, Jim Steffl and Don Christensen. The musical accompaniment will be furnished by Carol Erickson.

As in previous Watertown Players events, there will be a luncheon served. The delicacies, prepared by hand by Alice Mirk and Sue Trepte, will include sherry trifle, Scottish shortbread, fresh salmon, "Scottish birdies (meat pies)", Scottish sausage rolls, marmalade cake and of course, that most traditional of all Scottish dishes, Haggis. There is no charge for the meal, though donation baskets will be liberally placed about the room for those who feel moved to give.

It is recommended that those wishing to get a good seat should arrive early. At the end of the night a drawing will be held for special gift baskets. All proceeds raised will go to benefit the Watertown Players, who are celebrating tyheir 25th anniversary this year. The Players are trying to raise a fund to establish a permanent theater in Watertown and so they appeal to all theater-lovers and those that appreciate the fine arts to come out and support their cause.
