Community Garden Coordinator – LTE position

This LTE position, from June 1st to Oct. 25th, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the client’s well-being while enjoying the rewards of gardening.

As our Community Gardener, you will assist clients to improve their health and well-being through physical activity, nutrition, and wellness education.

Schedule:

  • Monday & Tuesday: 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Every other Saturday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Transport clients from Beaver Dam to Juneau two-three times per week.
  • Coordinate with clients the planting and general maintenance (watering, weeding, etc.) of raised vegetable gardens at Fairfield in Juneau.
  • Provides weekly exercise activities to clients that include walking and stretching.
  • Coordinate with the regional nurse to provide monthly education on nutrition and fitness.
  • Develop recipes with clients that incorporate vegetables grown from the garden.
  • Coordinate with PDs to provide lunch and dinner during the visit (lunch-Saturday and dinner-Monday, and Tuesday), including fruits and vegetables.
  • Freeze vegetables according to established guidelines during the season for use during the winter months.
  • Create an end-of-season harvest celebration using vegetables grown and invite family members, grantors, and CCLS leaders to attend.
